Kaltura MediaSpace Quick Start Guide

Kaltura MediaSpace is a convenient way to record, host and share videos all on the cloud.  

Record your Video on a Computer 

  1. Go to mediaspace.minnstate.edu and login with your StarID and password  
  2. Select "+ADD NEW" in the upper right-hand corner 
  3. Express Capture is web-based and uses your webcam and mic. It also features the ability to screen-cast too – it can record your desktop! 
  4. Make sure to give your web browser access to your camera and microphone 
  5. Record the video with the round red button and then click the red button again to stop
  6. If it looks/sounds good, click “Use This”, give it a name that will help you find it and click “Save” 
  7. Depending on the length of the video, it may take several minutes or hours to process  

Using a Mobile Device 

  1. Use your phone’s camera to record a video as you normally would
  2. Navigate to mediaspace.minnstate.edu in your phone’s web browser 
  3. Tap on the plus sign “+” then then “Media Upload”, find the video in your library and “Save” it 

Auto-Import Zoom Videos 

  1. Choose “record to cloud” in a Zoom meeting to auto-save meetings into your MediaSpace Library 
  2. Back in your MediaSpace Library, open your video and rename it under “Actions” then “Edit” then "Save"
  3. Under “Actions” select “Publish”, choose “Unlisted” and finally “Save” 

Caption Your Video 

  1. Your video will automatically be captioned! However, you must still go in and edit them 
  2. On the bottom right corner of the video click “Actions” then “Caption & Enrich” 
  3. Click “Caption & Enrich” then the small pencil icon to open the editor 
  4. Edit your captions by typing into the appropriate text box; don’t forget to "SAVE” when done 

If You are Faculty and Need Captioning Help 

  1. Email Accessibility and Disability Resources (accessresources@saintpaul.edu)  
  2. Fill out a captioning request under Service Requests (www.saintpaul.edu/employee-resources) 
  3. Back in your video in MediaSpace, click “Actions” then “Edit”              
  4. Under the “Collaboration” tab click “Choose co-editor" and enter the name that they tell you 

Place Your Video into D2L Brightspace  

  1. In the “Content” area of D2L, click on “Existing Activities” then “Kaltura Media” 
  2. Find the video you want, you can choose from your entire MediaSpace library listed chronologically or search by name 
  3. Click on the blue “Embed” button next to the
